Employment tax updates: July 2013

The latest employment tax news including HMRC’s consultation on offshore employment intermediaries, criminal record clarification and the indicator pilot for statutory residency test

Until 8 August, HMRC is consulting on offshore employment intermediaries with the aim of changing the applicable legislation with effect from April next year. The intention is to prevent the mischief of the avoidance of employers' national insurance contributions in the UK. Currently, while the use of offshore intermediaries may often be artificial, it is a legal way of supply labour into the UK.
