Taxpayers charged twice in SA error

Some taxpayers using an online payment service were charged more than once for their self assessement (SA) tax bill at the end of January due to a systems failure at HMRC. Up to a 1,000 customers using the BillPay service, managed by Santander Corporate Banking, had their tax bill debited more than once from their bank accounts.
