Real-time PAYE?

As announced in the emergency Budget, HM Revenue & Customs is to consult on mechanisms that could support more frequent or real-time PAYE data provision, under the heading ‘PAYE improvement’. This seems likely to be a project that could outlast the current parliament. The payrolling of benefits in kind remains in HMRC’s pending tray, and the P46 (Car) is to be revived as an e-form next year. The aims of the project are presumably to make PAYE codes more accurate more quickly, and to facilitate the automatic imposition of a penalty where monthly PAYE remittances are made late.
