Former Premier League footballer Dean Windass, famous for scoring the goal which propelled his club Hull City into the Premier League for the first time, is involved in bankruptcy proceedings over an outstanding tax payment estimated at more than £150,000
At a preliminary bankruptcy court hearing in London, Windass’s lawyer said he was trying to find a solution to his financial problems and another hearing is scheduled for December.
The Hull-born striker made more than 600 appearances and scored more than 200 goals in an 18-year career. In 2008 he scored the winning goal in the Wembley Championship play-off final which saw Hull City promoted to the top flight for the first time in their history.
Windass played for several other clubs, including, Bradford City, Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and Aberdeen, but has spoken of his problems with alcohol and depression following his retirement from football in 2010.
