FCA introduces consumer duty for financial service providers

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) plans to bring in a new consumer duty, which will improve how firms serve consumers from July 2023

It will set higher and clearer standards of consumer protection across financial services and requires firms to put their customers’ needs first.

The original plan was to introduce the rules from April 2023, but the FCA has delayed the introduction by three months following feedback that the implementation period gave too little time for the amount of work required, for example as older products and services may rely on legacy technology systems making review more difficult.
