Tassle hassle beats Brexit
And have you been here before? asked the compère.
‘I have not,’ I replied, gathering all the gravitas I could muster. ‘I am a businessman, in town on business.’ Which was partly true, I meet the description of a businessman on the face of it, although while I may have convinced others, I’ve never wholly convinced myself. And I was in town on business, or at least I had persuaded the CFO to let me attend a conference at the same time as letting him think it was located in London rather than in my old university town which I fancied visiting.
So my credentials were bona fide. Unlike a real businessman, however, after a day at the conference the possibility of getting stuck next to an IT Manager at the gala dinner was too great and I decided that heading into town on my own would be a better bet.
