Four in 10 finance staff fall for deep fake scams

As artificial intelligence (AI) is on the rise and set to benefit an abundance of jobs, fraudsters and scammers also look to utilise the technology for financial gain

In the UK 80% of finance workers say they would make a payment to a supplier if it were they were video called by their CEO or CFO according to Medius.

There is not just survey evidence of this, as Arup was caught out in a £20m deepfake fraud this year.

Out of all respondents to Medius’s survey 44% said they had fallen for one of these scams out of the 64% of respondents that said they had been targeted by deepfake fraud.

With the threat of cybercrime being more prevalent than ever individuals and companies should be introducing protocols to identify these attempts as 73% of respondents shared they think this form of scamming poses an ‘existential crisis to the business’ financial security’.
