GDP grew by 0.3% in January after contracting by 0.5% in December 2022, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.

The services sector grew by 0.5% in January 2023, after falling by 0.8% in December 2022, with the largest contributions to growth coming from education, transport and storage, human health activities, and entertainment and recreation.

The ONS also credited the return of domestic league football with boosting growth following the end of the World Cup.

The accounting industry accounted for £4bn of revenues in January, an increase of 18% from December 2022, according to the ONS.

The total UK services sector (including legal) had a turnover of £221bn in January, down 1% from December 2022.
