Existing tax rules on free accommodation, meals and childcare should be axed for NHS staff who made great sacrifices to protect us all, says RSM’s Susan Ball
Back in April we heard that many healthcare workers made the difficult decision to live away from their families while they went to work during the coronavirus outbreak. We spent many weeks out on our doorsteps clapping to thank the NHS for making sacrifices for us. Without them where would we be?
In order to support them, many NHS trusts looked at the resources they needed to keep the hospitals functioning and in turn how they could more effectively support the staff they were asking to work. Support included making accommodation, food, transport, childcare and parking available to staff in order to keep them safe and well and to enable them to do their jobs.
