The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) has imposed sanctions against Grant Thornton UK LLP and Philip Westerman, a former partner at the firm, over the statutory audits of Sports Direct for the financial statements for year ends 24 April 2016 and 29 April 2018. The main issues related to audit failures over of inventory reporting, website sales and poor documentation of audit evidence.

High street retailer Sports Direct International is listed on the main market of the London Stock Exchange and Grant Thornton had audited the firm since 2007.
