The new body, Skills England, will manage the new growth and skills levy, which will eventually replace the apprenticeship levy and the organisation will be led by interim chair Richard Pennycock, non-executive director at the Department for Education.

The aim is to bring together the fractured skills landscape and boost the nation’s skills, with reform of the apprenticeship levy as a core aim with a new growth and skills levy.

Details about how the growth and skills levy will work have not been released yet but the plan is to encourage training for apprenticeships in response to demand and remove the current barriers businesses face when using the existing system.
