A second Scottish football is facing an uncertain future as Hearts faces its sixth winding-up order in three years over unpaid taxes of almost £450,000.

The latest notice served to the Edinburgh-based club is unrelated to a £1.75m tax bill - relating to players loaned from a Lithuanian club which Hearts owner Vladimir Romanov also owns - that it is challenging HMRC over at the First-tier Tax Tribunal.

Currently in tenth position in the Scottish Premier League, Hearts Midlothian have eight days to pay the £449,692.04 in outstanding PAYE and VAT, or face liquidation, with the game against St Mirren, due to be played on the 17 November, possibly being its last.

A spokesperson for the club, said: 'We have guaranteed future revenues from forthcoming games and related broadcast income as well as additional guaranteed transfer income which will more than cover the outstanding amount stated in this petition. We would therefore be hopeful that HMRC will accept that winding up the club would be totally unnecessary.'

The Tynecastle club have issued a plea to supporters to show their support with financial contributions to help it stay afloat.
