Heaton: a right RTI mess

HMRC blames users for on-going RTI reporting problems, but David Heaton is sceptical

We have the technology but we apparently don't know how to use it. In September, HMRC published a report explaining why problems with Real Time Information (RTI) reporting would disappear if employers only knew how to use it properly.

The summer saw some RTI-related problems. Employers reported, worryingly, that HMRC's debt management teams were hassling them for non-existent underpayments of PAYE, while the computer imposed totally unjustified estimated charges that were then being pursued.
