HMRC eyes up single XBRL format for company tax returns

Modernisation of corporate tax filing will see move to prescribed XBRL tagging framework from autumn 2027 to improve corporation tax computations, HMRC confirms

The move to mandatory online filing of amendments to corporation tax returns is included in a wider consultation issued by HMRC as part of its programme to modernise and standardise company tax returns.

The main thrust of the consultation is the timetable for the introduction of prescribed formats for content, format and XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language) data tagging of corporation tax computations submitted as part of the company tax return. These computations are part of the annual tax return, alongside the CT600 and annual accounts.
