HMRC launches user panel to improve digital services

HMRC is seeking individuals to sign up to its user panel to help improve its online services and content, while ensuring the gov.uk website works correctly ahead of the digitisation of the tax system under the Making Tax Digital project

HMRC will use the information provided during user panel research sessions to improve its existing services and develop new services, such as Making Tax Digital.

Individuals applying to become part of the panel will first be asked to answer a few simple questions about themselves and how they use computers, such as how often they use the internet, what they use the internet for and what device they use to surf the internet.

Once signed up, individuals may be asked to try new online transactions, answer further questions, and talk to researchers about their experience with government in the past.

If asked to take part in person individuals may be expected to come to a government building in London or could be visited at home, with sessions usually lasting an hour. If a participant meets a researcher in person, they will receive a voucher as a thank you for their time.

If they decide to take part in research online, they will be given a task to do on GOV.UK, with the sessions usually lasting 30 minutes.

The User Panel application form is available here
