HMRC plans online services downtime

HMRC has posted details of closures to its online services planned for the end of next week, which are designed to allow the department to handle IT releases, service upgrades and maintenance.

According to the information on the HMRC website, online services are expected to close from 06:00 on Friday 11 October 2013 and open for use by 06:00 on Monday 14 October 2013.

Messages about the availability of specific services are shown on the website. HMRC says these will be frequently updated and is urging users to check the page regularly.

Some services will be unaffected, while others will be unavailable for portions of time during the overall period because of a scheduled upgrade.

In general, users of those online services which are affected will still be able to use commercial software to submit returns, but will experience a delay before receiving online acknowledgements until Sunday 13 October.

The acknowledgement will be sent once the service is restored and users are asked not to attempt to resend submissions.

For some taxes, online users creating a direct debit mandate between 20:15 on Wednesday 9 October and 06:00 on Friday 11 October, will not be able to view the details until 07:30 on Monday 14 October.
