Holiday let owners may need planning permission

The government is planning to tighten up the rules on ownership of holiday lets with the introduction of planning permission

The rules would apply to all holiday lets, including Airbnb properties and accommodation let via online platforms.

The government said the extension would protect local residents who are being outpriced as accommodation is bought as holiday let investments.

The consultation published by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities proposes introducing planning permission for an existing home to start to be used as a short term let.
