How to retain accountancy staff - tips and advice

For smaller accountancy practices, an unexpected resignation could cause huge challenges. So, what can accountancy firms do to try and retain staff in the current climate, asks John Edwards, CEO of the Institute of Financial Accountants (IFA)

Employees asking for a pay rise during these difficult times is perhaps not an unusual scenario, but it can be tricky for employers to offer a salary increase when firms are also feeling the pinch. This may force a firm’s talent pool to seek jobs elsewhere.

Research from MetLife shows that 54% of employees are considering leaving their job in the next 18 months and 59% will start looking for a new job if their work values are not accommodated. Salaries are set to rise by as much as 25% in the first tax quarter, as companies bouncing back after the Omicron-slowdown battle to retain their best staff, new research shows.
