The Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) is officially launching its new UK chapter at an inauguration conference to be held in London next week which will outline the institute’s future strategy in the UK and provide an opportunity to meet the founding board

The conference will be held on Friday 3 February at the Hilton Hyde Park under the umbrella of the IMA global office and IMA Europe. It is an all-day event that will shed the light on the chapter strategy as well as its future plans.

Fatema El-Wakeel, IMA UK chapter elected president, said: ‘Being an IMA member myself and having founded the Cairo Chapter before, I know from personal experience how important it is for IMA members to have the support of a local chapter.

The UK chapter is set to empower its members and add value to the strategic finance and management accounting profession through providing a global perspective.’

The conference will include the charter ceremony as well as four speakers covering current topics. Alex Eng, chair-elect of IMA’s global board of directors will speak on corporate governance, while Nina Michels-Kim, IMA director of European operations will give a talk entitled ‘Blinded by Pressure’.

Brendan Weekes, BDO, will speak on fraud awareness for accountants and controllers, and Tony Hill, Jaguar Land Rover, will talk on understanding costs beyond price.
