Income tax and NICs take hits £77.2bn

£77.2bn has been raised in income tax and national insurance (NI) since April, which is £2.8bn higher than the same period last year

For May alone PAYE income tax reached £20.6bn, almost £1bn more than May 2023. However, due to NI drops by the Chancellor at both the Autumn Statement and the Spring Budget, the total amount of NI taken has dropped by £1.3bn compared to a year ago.

As the thresholds stay frozen and look to stay that way no matter who gets into No 10 as all parties have said there is not the money to make any changes at the moment, thousands more will be dragged into paying higher rates of tax.
