Internal auditors urge government to hold directors accountable

Directors should be held responsible for audit failures in plans for audit reform, says the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors in a letter to the business minister

Following reports that the government plans to dilute director accountability and reject proposals to tighten rules to hold directors accountable for audit failures and financial reporting errors, the CIIA has called on minister Kwasi Kwarteng to ensure that directors are not excluded from any reform plans.

It is expected that the government will publish its plans for audit reform before the end of the year but any changes will require parliamentary approval so there will be further delays until any new regulations come into effect.
