International reporting: IBOR Phase 2 and management commentary

Changes to the Interbank Offered Rate (IBOR) will impact IFRS 9 while a review of management commentary will tighten requirements around disclosures, the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) has confirmed. Jeroen Van Doorsselaere explains

The replacement of the Interbank Offered Rate (IBOR) undoubtedly represents one of the largest undertakings for the financial services industry. The interest rate benchmark reforms have so far been split in to two phases.

The first phase saw the introduction of the transition period. In reality, this simply encouraged the industry not to break existing contracts and if the rate was known for the new contract, to use the alternative rate.
