International reporting: IFRS leasing standard set for 2019, IFRS 9 headache

Two major IFRS standards are slated to come into force in the next few years, but both are causing reporting issues for companies. Jeroen Van Doorsselaere, IFRS expert at Wolters Kluwer Financial Services considers the pitfalls with the IFRS leasing standard set for 2019 and IFRS 9, Financial Instruments, headaches

A few months back the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) tentatively decided that the effective date of the long-expected leasing standard will be 1 January 2019. As a result, there will be challenging years ahead as it was originally expected that the effective date of the insurance standard would be no later than 2021. This is the final deadline for the mandatory effective date for insurance contracts under IFRS 9, Financial Instruments, which had been pre-announced and had the single purpose to co-exist alongside the new insurance standard. Aside from that, some narrow scope amendments to IFRS 14, Regulatory Deferral Accounts, are due at the start 2016.
