International reporting: insurance standard and IFRS 9 exemptions

Jeroen Van Doorsselaere, IFRS expert at Wolters Kluwer Financial Services considers the IASB plans for a temporary IFRS 9 exemption for insurance companies and the final touches to new disclosure rules

In the application of IFRS 9 Financial Instruments, the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) board has now approved proposals for an exemption for insurance companies for qualifying entities. This follows consultation with preparers on the two suggested approaches. The standard-setter has decided to go ahead with the exposure draft proposal based on a temporary exemption for applying IFRS 9 for the qualifying entities.
