IRS warns on filing deadline for overseas US taxpayers

The US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has issued a deadline reminder to taxpayers living and working outside the US to file a 2024 federal income tax return by mid June

The final deadline for filing and paying any tax due is Monday 16 June 2025. This applies to US citizens and resident aliens abroad, including those with dual citizenship.

It is important to note the date is 16 June this year, as opposed to 15 June, as the usual filing deadline falls on a Sunday. Overseas Americans are given a two-month automatic extension from 15 April, compared with US residents.

A taxpayer qualifies for this automatic extension if they are living outside the US and Puerto Rico, and their main place of business or post of duty is outside, or they are in military or naval service overseas.
