There’s a lovely bit in the Taxpayers’ Charter which states:

‘Treating you fairly

'We’ll work within the law to make sure everyone pays the right amount of tax and gets their benefits and other entitlements. We’ll assume you’re telling the truth, unless we’ve good reason to think you’re not.’ 

When you file a tax return, there could be a number of reasons parts of it may be incorrect and no-one can hold HMRC to task for merely doing their job and checking those returns. 

However, this week, we, on the Croner-I enquiries team, have been shocked to learn that many of our clients have been accused of fraud.
