KPMG is set to be appointed as the auditor for RSA Group, the insurance giant, following a decision by the board to change auditors due to a possible conflict of interest across the wider group.
In a statement in the year end results, published today, RSA Group said that it would put the change of auditor decision to a vote at the 2013 AGM.
'We intend to recommend to shareholders that they appoint KPMG as auditors for 2013. This follows the impending appointment of our current auditors, Deloitte, to undertake additional consultancy work in Scandinavia which we and they felt could impair the perception of their independence,' the statement said.
The current auditor Deloitte had handled the insurance group's audit since 2007.
Deloitte's audit fee for 2011 was £5.5m, with an additional £500,000 in audit related fees. In total the firm earned £9.6m in total fees from the insurer up to year end 31 December 2011.
Sources at KPMG said the firm was 'very pleased to win this new audit'.
