LDF undisclosed tax scheme yields over £1bn

HMRC’s latest statistics show the tax yield from the Liechtenstein Disclosure Facility (LDF) for undeclared offshore liabilities has climbed through the £1bn barrier, but is likely to be well short of delivering the £3bn originally promised by the time the scheme closes next year

The data indicates that the total yield generated from LDF settlements has risen from £296m in April 2012 to £1,023m in December 2014.

The figures for December 2014 show the bulk of settlements so far (3,593) have been for amounts under £100,000.  The average settlement under LDF to date stands at £173,000.

The number of settlements between £100,000 and £1m is now at 1,453, and there are 135 settlements for amounts between £1m and £5m. Since April 2014, there has been a doubling in the number of settlements for over £5m, up from 7 to 14 in December.

HMRC’s table also shows monthly amounts paid in LDF cases not yet settled, which have been increasing steadily from under £90m each month between April 2012 and April 2013 to over £100m each month thereafter. These are payments which have been paid in a case which is ongoing; once the case settles then that figure is added to the cumulative figure for LDF settlements.
