A grim outpost of 60s architecture in East London is fast becoming a hotbed for tech entrepreneurs, but does the hype bear scrutiny, asks Lesley Meall

Sabre tooth caterpillars. Marshmallow mountains. Slug slurp slushies. TrundleBots. If you don’t have any children under the age of 10, then the world of Moshi Monsters may have escaped you. But it merits further investigation because Mind Candy, the company behind the kids’ social networking and virtual pet site, is one of the success stories doing business in the area at the junction of Broad Street and City Road in East London, now dubbed Silicon Roundabout.
