Making Tax Digital: looking to the future

The arrival of Making Tax Digital (MTD) for VAT reporting from April 2019 is forcing businesses to upgrade their accounting practices. David McGeachy and Alison Hobbs of Saffery Champness examine the future plans for the extension of MTD to all taxes

The first major stepping stone in the government’s Making Tax Digital for Business (MTDfB) programme - the move to digital VAT reporting - is due to take effect from April 2019, and the majority of affected businesses will probably now have heard from HMRC, as well as their tax agent if they have one.
