When I left university I was advised that becoming a chartered accountant was the best route to C-level, top corporate positions. I was interviewed at, what was then, Arthur Young by an audit senior whose surname was Cadbury (of the famous Cadbury family). He told me that, in his view, becoming a chartered accountant was merely the first career step, and that equally important was having an MBA – from that moment I was hooked on the idea.
