Online sellers in China want HMRC to translate tax guidance

In the latest HMRC research report, Chinese online sellers reported a reasonable knowledge of UK tax rules, but wanted to see more guidance and information available in Chinese to improve awareness levels

The research was conducted to understand the knowledge, attitudes and behaviours of Chinese online sellers in relation to their customs and tax obligations when selling goods to the UK.

While there were high levels of awareness of recent changes to the UK tax system regarding VAT charged on online sales to the UK from 1 January 2021, the depth of understanding varied between online sellers. Many were open in admitting that they did not have a detailed understanding of the specific policy.
