The week's latest appointments including new assistant editor at Accountancy magazine, former CEO at Deloitte becomes chairman of Radius, UHY promotes a director to partner, RSM announces new head of construction, Smith & Williamson hires non-executive director

Calum Fuller has joined Accountancy magazine and CCH Daily  as assistant editor. He was previously at Accountancy Age from 2012-2016 as a reporter covering tax, technology, audit, assurance and accounting standards. He takes over from Penny Sukraj who is now managing news editor, international tax at Bloomberg BNA.

John Connolly FCA, former global chairman and UK chief executive of Deloitte, has been appointed as chairman of consultancy firm Radius. He was senior partner and CEO of Deloitte from 1999-2011 and was global chairman form 2007-2011. He is currently chairman of G4S, security systems and Amec Foster Wheeler, leader in oil and gas services. Connolly replaces David Thorpe, who stepped down as chairman but will remain on Radius’ board of directors.

UHY Hacker Young has promoted Kevin Blakemore to partner. He started his career with UHY as a trainee accountant and was subsequently promoted to audit manager and then to director level. Blakemore said: ‘Working at such a well respected firm has been an incredible career experience, and I am delighted to be joining a partnership whose members I have learned from and respect’.

RSM has appointed trained accountant Kelly Boorman as its head of construction. She will be responsible for leading the firm’s senior team providing advice and support to the construction sector. Boorman has been a partner at RSM since 2012 and has 20 years' professional practice experience advising the construction sector. 

John Harley joins Smith & Williamson’s main board as non executive director. He has previously held senior management roles at PwC and EY with experience in audit and advisory work. Harley retired from EY in 2011 and since then has held a number of non-executive positions in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.

Restaurant Group has appointed Barry Nightingale, former finance head at Monarch Airlines, as CFO. He follows Stephen Critoph who was at the company for 11 years. He has been appointed after shares in Restaurant Group have fallen 50% in the last year.

Law firm, Carey Olsen, has expanded its Cayman Islands dispute resolution and insolvency practice with the appointment of practitioner Sam Dawson. He specialises in cross border commercial financial litigation and has expertise in the field of insolvency and restructuring.

Angela Nolan has been announced as the new director of HR & workplace performance at the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). She has worked in the financial sector as an HR Business Partner and in 2014, she was appointed to the role of head of HR at CIMA.
