Caroline Fleet has joined Crowe’s London office as a tax partner. She joins the firm with more than 20 years’ experience working in tax within professional services firms, and for over a decade as a real estate tax specialist. Before her move to Crowe, Fleet held the position of partner and head of property at a consultancy firm, with responsibilities ranging from advising established property development groups on transactions and structures, to advising on Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) and areas of specialist tax legislation. As tax partner she will work with clients to assist them with both their tax compliance and advisory needs, as well as helping them to navigate the challenges posed by a market with ever-evolving regulations.

KPMG has appointed Jennifer Cooper as international tax director in the firm’s international tax team in London. Cooper has previously worked at EY. In recent years she was based in both the UK and Silicon Valley, specialising in helping US-headquartered multinationals understand the changing UK tax environment. At KPMG she will be based in London, advising multinational groups on the impact of business change and tax change - including M&A, business integration, supply chain restructuring and BEPS.

Ayming, the international business performance consultancy, has appointed Mark Smith as partner of the innovation incentives practice, covering R&D tax incentives and grants. Smith joins from KPMG, where he was director in the innovation reliefs and incentives team, having worked there since 2006.

MHA Carpenter Box has promoted Peter Reading, who joined the firm in 2001 as a trainee, to partner in the firm's assurance and advisory group. His particular focus is on regulated audit work and compliance advice in the construction and real estate sector. Sarah Fitzgerald has also joined MHA Carpenter Box at Partner level with the Business Services Group. Sarah previously ran her own accountancy practice in West Sussex. She brings over 25 years’ experience to the firm and will be providing owner-managed businesses with expert advice covering strategic planning and business development, as well as providing expert tax and accounting support.

The Board of Directors of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has elected Bank of Korea Governor Juyeol Lee to the Board. An elected director is initially appointed for a three-year term, which may be renewed. Lee’s appointment, which takes effect in January 2019, is in line with changes to the BIS’s Statutes announced in June 2017, with a view to enhancing the diversity of regional representation within the BIS. Lee was appointed Governor of the Bank of Korea in 2014. Earlier this year, his tenure was renewed for a second term until March 2022.
