In this week’s career moves, partner promotions and hires at Crowe, Saffery, Lubbock Fine, Price Bailey, Armstrong Watson, haysmacintyre, Moore Kingston Smith

Crowe has appointed Matt Daniels and Kate Stent to the firm’s partnership. Daniels has been promoted to partner in the corporate audit team with more than 20 years of experience providing audit and accountancy support to businesses. He is based in the firm’s new Thames Valley office and has been with the firm since 2007. Stent joins the Thames Valley office with 30 years of experience in corporate audit, most recently as director, assurance at PwC. 

Saffery has expanded its corporate tax offering with the appointment of two partners in London. Zoe Thomas and Jonathan Hornby each bring with them over 25 years’ experience providing corporate tax services to UK and international businesses. Thomas is head of corporate tax London and joins from Evelyn Partners where she was a partner. She has extensive experience in domestic and international corporate tax advice, fund structuring and M&A transactions. Hornby specialises in corporate tax for multinationals across a wide range of industries and joins from Alvarez & Marsal where he was a managing director.

Forvis Mazars has appointed Deniz Nadiri as office managing partner (OMP) in London. She takes on the role from Richard Karmel who remains in the firm but is stepping aside after 11 years as OMP to focus on other projects. Nadiri will be responsible for driving forward the firm’s business strategy and presence in London. She will focus on enhancing client experience and continuing to serve clients as well as driving greater collaboration and integration across the business. Nadiri joined the firm in 2023 as FTSE 350 development partner from EY where she was a director. The London office has also hired 148 trainees, consisting of graduate, school leaver and placement students.

Lubbock Fine has made three partner promotions with the appointment of Rebecca Bryant, Stephanie Turner and Hazra Patel to the partnership. The three, previously directors, have been with the firm from early stages in their careers. Bryant joined the assurance team after graduating in 2011 and specialises in assurance services for clients, including those in hospitality, consultancy and property. Turner works in the assurance team, focusing on the restaurant, technology and property sectors. Patel works with clients in the charity and not for profit sector as well as a wide range of corporate clients. At the same time the firm has brought in Alex Altmann as partner and head of the new German desk. He brings 18 years’ experience in advising German businesses on entering the UK market. He joins from Blick Rothenberg where he held a similar role.

Moore Kingston Smith LLP has appointed Richard Blakeley and Thomas Dalby as partners. Blakeley is a partner and chartered surveyor (MRICS), providing capital allowances advice to plant-intensive businesses, property owners and occupiers. He will launch and lead the firm’s capital allowances specialism. Previously he was a director at PJB. Dalby joins as a partner in the business tax and legal teams, working with clients from founders to international listed groups. A barrister and specialist in employee share schemes, Dalby also has specialist experience working with private-equity-backed groups, both buy and sell side. He joins from Cooper Parry where he was a partner, and previously he was head of employer solutions at Haines Watts Greater London.

Armstrong Watson has appointed Craig Reid as accounting and business services partner. He has more than 20 years’ experience working in the accounting profession, and has advised an extensive range of businesses, from family-owned and start-ups to limited companies, including international groups. Previously he was at Mazars for four years as accounting and business advisory director. This is a key appointment in Armstrong Watson’s senior team in Scotland.

haysmacintyre has expanded its team of partners with the promotion of Karen Allan to the partnership. She is currently co-head of the financial services team, and her clients include clients include wealth managers and advisory businesses, alongside fintech, venture capital and private equity firms. Allan joined the firm as a trainee in 2012, qualified in 2016, and was promoted to director in 2020 after progressing swiftly through her managerial career.

Price Bailey has made five senior level promotions, making Charlotte Anson and Jon Chambers directors in the tax team, while Alan Becker in IT, Josh Mckeckney in outsourcing and Judith Dott in the business team become senior managers. These promotions not only reflect hard work and dedication but also demonstrate the firm’s ongoing commitment to nurturing talent and developing in-house leadership talent.

Heligan Group has appointed five graduates to its corporate finance division, providing the new hires with training, support, and the ability to attain ACA qualifications over the next three years. While it is unusual for a corporate finance practice of this size to take on so many graduates at one time, Heligan said the move was part of strategy for future growth and the new additions were a critical part of supporting that plan. 

McDermott Will & Emery has appointed Candice Nichol as a partner in its tax practice. She will be instrumental in supporting the growth of the law firm’s UK and European tax advisory mandates, and is the ninth London-based partner to join this year. A seasoned, multidisciplinary tax professional, Nichol joins from KPMG where she was a partner. She works with private equity funds and investors on the structuring of international transactions across all asset classes.

Oaklins Evelyn Partners has appointed Mark Brockway as a corporate finance partner in the London office. He focuses on the tech-enabled services sector and has considerable experience of transactions with private equity investors. Brockway joins from Cooper Parry Corporate Finance where he spent two years as a partner. Previously he worked in EY’s corporate finance team for more than 16 years, latterly head of london mid-market M&A. 

Sacker & Partners LLP, the specialist law firm for pensions and retirement savings, has announced that Andy Lewis will be joining the firm as a partner on 4 November from Travers Smith. He is a highly regarded pensions lawyer in the defined benefit and defined contribution space, with extensive experience of advising the trustees and sponsors of large pension funds, and is a sustainability and productive investment expert.

Calderys, a global provider of refractory products, has appointed Sander Bovee as chief financial officer (CFO). He is a seasoned financial professional with experience leading global teams and businesses. He joins from chemicals company Nouryon, where he was vice president of group control & treasury and interim CFO, and handled the company’s carve-out from Akzo Nobel.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) have appointed Elizabeth Passey as chair of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme’s (FSCS) board. She took up the role on 1 October 2024. Over a 30-year career, Passey has held senior positions with J Stern & Co, Investec Asset Management and Morgan Stanley. She was recently chair of the Rural Payments Agency, and convener of the University of Glasgow.
