MHA has appointed Peter Carville as a partner to lead its financial services tax team. He has more than 30 years’ experience in the financial services sector on in-bound international tax and business transformation, most recently as a partner with KPMG. Carville has worked with a wide range of financial service institutions, including retail and commercial banks, foreign banks with a UK presence, building societies, trading platforms and asset managers.

Crowe has expanded its corporate audit offering with the appointment of Michael Harvey as a partner. He brings over 30 years of auditing experience from large global groups and listed entities to small start-ups, covering financial services, manufacturing, retail, technology, leisure and hospitality. Harvey will be based in the firm’s Manchester office and joins from EY where was an assurance partner.

BDO LLP has appointed three partners, Gordon Whiley, David Reeves and Chi Ha. Whiley joins as an audit partner and specialises in working with listed businesses in the natural resources and energy sector. He joins from Deloitte and will be based in London. Reeves joins the financial services audit team in Edinburgh and brings over 20 years’ experience with a focus on the asset management sector, and was most recently a partner at EY. Ha joins the financial services tax team and will focus on delivering tax advisory services including fund structuring and European investor tax reporting to asset managers, based in London. Ha joins from PwC where she was a tax director.

Evelyn Partners has appointed Stuart Whitehead as a partner to head up the firm’s cyber security practice in the Manchester office. He has more than 25 years’ experience providing cyber security and digital consulting services and joins from Deloitte where he was a partner and led the UK cyber digital transformation practice. His appointment follows on from the acquisition Haines Watts’ offices in Leeds, Manchester and Newcastle.

Forvis Mazars has appointed Jenn Hazlehurst as an audit partner and head of audit transformation, based in the northwest, and she will join the audit executive of the UK firm. She will cover the industry and services sector, and will be responsible for growing the listed audit business. In her new position on the audit executive, Hazlehurst will focus on developing the UK firm’s audit business through the use of technology. Previously she was Liverpool office managing partner at EY. Meantime, Ryan Crilley has been appointed as an audit partner based across the Glasgow and Edinburgh offices. He will work with privately owned businesses and will also support the wider team with learning and development. Crilley joins from Johnston Carmichael, where he was an audit director.

RBK Chartered Accountants has promoted three directors to associate partners, Sinéad McMahon as associate tax partner, Charlene McCrossan as audit & business advisory associate partner and Michael Moriarty as client services associate partner. They will focus on expanding the firm’s specialist services, while supporting clients in navigating complex reporting and regulatory challenges. The promotions bring the leadership team to 20 partners.

Monahans has appointed Sophie Austin to the newly established position of operations partner as part of the integration with the Sumer Group. The role is a COO-equivalent position, to lead on integration of new partnerships and management of support functions, and oversee integration of acquisitions to ensure minimal impact on client-facing individuals. Austin was previously HR partner at the accountancy firm.

Carpenter Box has appointed Annemarie Fern and Emily Girling as senior managers in the Worthing and Portsmouth team respectively. Fern has more than 18 years’ experience and will manage a portfolio of clients and mentor a team of 12, as well as advising on technical auditing and financial reporting requirements. She joins from Kreston Reeves where she was an audit and assurance manager. Girling is a specialist in the not-for-profit and education sectors, and will oversee client audits as well as developing her own portfolio of clients in the Hampshire area. Previously she was an audit manager at RSM.

Equiom has appointed Jonathan Wheeler as head of Middle East to lead the strategic direction and operations across the region. He has over 28 years’ experience in senior leadership positions in the financial services sector, combined with deep understanding of the Middle East market, and will drive regional growth at the private client, family office, and corporate services firm. Previously he was director of strategic partnerships at TMF Group in Dubai.

PA Media Group has announced the appointment of Ranj Begley to the dual role of chief revenue officer and managing director, PA Media. She will oversee commercial and operational activities for PA Media, the core news agency, as well as strategic and commercial initiatives across the group. She will join the business at the beginning of 2025 from digital media streaming service, Readly, where she has been managing director and chief content officer since 2014.

Mariella Frostrup, women’s health campaigner, has been appointed as menopause employment ambassador by the government. The voluntary role will see Frostrup working closely with employers to improve workplace support for women experiencing the menopause, raise awareness of the symptoms and champion the economic contributions of women. A key focus will be helping women going through the menopause stay in work and progress in their careers.

AICPA & CIMA, the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, has appointed Mark Koziel as CEO to replace Barry Melancon, who will retire at the end of 2024. Koziel is currently president and CEO of Allinial Global, and will take up the role in January following a handover period. He began working in the profession at accounting firm, Lumsden McCormick, based in Buffalo, New York.
