In the latest accountancy jobs moves, Gibson Booth makes two appointments to its tax and accountancy departments, Newby Castleman promotes two staff members, seven promotions are made in the team at Johnston Carmichael
Barnsley-based Gibson Booth has appointed Helen Needham as accounts senior and Anne Cook as a tax senior. Needham has a degree in maths and finance and is working towards the ACCA qualification. She will prepare accounts for the firm’s sole traders, partnerships and limited companies. Cook will be responsible for looking after a portfolio of personal tax clients.
Newby Castleman has promoted Andrea Moran to head of bookkeeping and payroll services and Gulam Sattar has become a financial controller. Moran has been at the firm for four years as a member of its bookkeeping and payroll services team which she will now become the manager of. Sattar began working with the firm in 2013 after graduating with a degree in accountancy and finance.
Johnston Carmichael has expanded its leadership team with seven promotions. Rosalind Catto and Scott Jeffrey, who are based in the Inverness office, Irvine Spowart in Edinburgh, Ryan Diplexcito of the Perth team, and Gavin Young in Glasgow, have all been promoted to the position of partner. Iain Castles, from the firm’s Fraserburgh office and Emma Waterman, who is based in Inverurie, are being appointed as directors. The promotions bring the total number of partners at Johnston Carmichael to 57.
Crowe Clark Whitehill has appointed two partners to its risk and assurance and employer advisory teams. Richard Evans joins the firm's non profit team to lead its risk and assurance service offering. With a Big Four background, he specialises in internal audit, governance, risk and fraud investigation. Caroline Harwood will lead the firm's share plans and incentives team. As a qualified chartered accountant and chartered tax adviser, she sits on the share schemes expert committee of the Quoted Companies Alliance and was actively involved in advising UK tax authorities in the development of disguised remuneration legislation.
Matt Rider has become chief financial officer at Aegon, succeeding Darryl Button. He was previously a member of ING's Management Board Insurance until 2013, having previously served as chief financial officer for ING Insurance and as head of product development for ING's US Retail Annuity Business. From 1994 until 2003 Rider held various positions in the Merrill Lynch Insurance Group, including chief actuary and chief investment officer. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch he also worked for Transamerica and Banner Life Insurance Company.
Nicky Fisher has become president of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) succeeding Mark McBride. She will become the 37th president with her term beginning on 19 May. She is a licenced insolvency practitioner and is a partner at Herron Fisher as well as being a Fellow of AAT, the Insolvency Practitioners Association and the Association of Business Recovery Professionals.
