In a busy week for partner appointments and career moves, KPMG appoints Jane McCormick at global head of tax, changes at the tax ombudsman, beefing up the tax team at French Duncan, senior hire at Aspinalls and innovation boost at Grant Thornton
KPMG has appointed Jane McCormick as global head of tax after 20 years working at the firm. McCormick was previously chair of the firm's global investment management and banking teams and is currently head of tax for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMA), having originally joined the Inland Revenue and qualified as an inspector of taxes. McCormick represents the firm at PAC hearings and is also involved with the simplification of tax programme.
The Big Four firm has also promoted tax specialist Peter Beckett to partner within its UK real estate team. Beckett originally joined KPMG in 1996, leaving in 2004 to lead the real estate tax team in Ernst and Young’s London real estate practice. He re-joined KPMG in 2011.
Grant Thornton has appointed Ian Rowland as head of innovation group. Following two years directed by Dominic Preston, the national service offering will now be led by Rowland, with effect from 1 January 2016. Rowland has over 16 years’ tax experience, with a main focus on advising owner managed companies and entrepreneurial clients and is a specialist in research and development (R&D) tax.
Scottish firm French Duncan has appointed Stephen Thom to the newly created position of head of corporate tax, Glasgow. Previously with Grant Thornton in Glasgow, Thom has also worked in the tax advisory team at Lloyds Banking Group in Edinburgh and in the corporate tax team at BDO’s London office, where he qualified.
TIAG, an international alliance of independent accounting firms has appointed five new advisory board members, who include UK representative, Paul Maberly, who is a senior partner at Mercer & Hole.
Specialist financial planning and wealth management practice Aspinalls, has named Matthew Parden as chief executive officer. He has over twenty years' experience in the industry including seventeen years at Duncan Lawrie Private Bank as finance director and latterly group managing director.
Essex-based Haslers has promoted Dominic Dumville to the position of insolvency partner. Dumville joined the firm in 2005 as a part-qualified accountant, and moved into the insolvency department five years later.
Former PwC partner Chris Carson has joined RPC Consulting to develop and broaden its management consultancy services. While at PwC, he led the firm's insurance advisory practice across EMEA, having spent three years as a director at Deloitte in the insurance consulting team; two years at St James Place as operations director for its Dublin Life company; and two years at Bacon & Woodrow in its insurance consulting team.
Grant Thornton has made three senior appointments in its Yorkshire practice. Dan Rosinke joins as a partner in transaction advisory services from Yorkshire Bank, where he was head of specialist and acquisition finance (East England). Prior to that he worked for PwC and nabCapita. Martin Barron joins as a partner in recovery and reorganisation, having worked for PwC and Deloitte, while Rachel Engwell becomes a partner in tax, joining from EY where she trained.
Newby Castleman has promoted Lucy Partridge, Michael Frost and Caroline Walpole to positions as senior auditors.
