RSM UK has appointed Matthew Rose as partner to strengthen its fast-growing consulting team, marking the third partner appointment in just over a month. He will be based in the London office and joins the monitoring trustee team to assist clients with regulatory challenges. Previously Rose was at international US law firm, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, where he spent over 12 years as a UK and EU competition lawyer. He specialises in regulatory aspects of complex transactional work, working closely with regulators on merger control matters.

Evelyn Partners has appointed Mark Hendry as a partner to help establish a new practice providing clients with cyber security services. His experience includes industry roles and a decade in the Big Four advising FTSE 350 and equivalent clients in all aspects of information and cyber risk including strategic, regulatory and post-incident transformation. For the past three years he has been director of cyber security at DWF, a global provider of integrated legal and business services.

MHA Moore and Smalley has appointed Lindsey Shepherd as a partner in the audit team based at the Manchester office, supporting clients across the north west. She joins the company from DJH Mitten Clarke where she started in 2020 as a director to initially establish and lead an office in Manchester. Prior to joining DJH Mitten Clarke, Shepherd spent the majority of her career at Azets, where she joined as a graduate of the University of Salford. There she progressed to director, working across the Bolton and Manchester offices and specialised in advising legal firms.

Moore Kingston Smith has appointed Paul McKeown as head of valuations. He has over 30 years’ experience and he will launch the firm’s service offering for clients, complementing the existing team of experts who advise on transactions across a range of sectors. McKeown specialises in navigating complex business and share structures for commercial, accounting, regulatory, litigation and tax purposes. He joins the firm from BDO where he was a director and head of valuations for the Midlands and the North.

Haines Watts has appointed Sophie Kwiatkowski as associate partner in Leeds, where she will focus on growing the firm’s medical accounting practice. She has nine years’ experience, specialising in supporting dentistry professionals. Previously she was a senior manager at PFM Townends LLP.

Kilsby Williams has appointed Stuart Evans as a tax associate. He has developed his expertise in a wide variety of tax disciplines including VAT, personal and corporate tax during his time in the public and private sector, including roles HMRC and Deloitte. Previously, Evans was managing director of Sevan Associates, a tax and accountancy consultancy providing support and advice to owner managed businesses and private individuals. He will bring his established client portfolio to Kilsby Williams.

Hurst has welcomed its biggest ever single intake of trainees, a cohort of 11 new arrivals, made up of eight university graduates and three sixth-form college leavers. Five of the graduates, Antony Vettukuzhiyil, Fahim Ali, Faraaz Iftikhar, Hadiba Ali and Samuel Pakes, have joined after gaining degrees in accounting and finance from Manchester Metropolitan University, reinforcing the firm’s strong links with the university. Other university graduates trainees include Taalyah Riaz, Phil Rhodes and Lucy Deegan. Sixth form joiners include Savera Syed, Jacob Rhodes and Jacob Popplewell.

PwC has named Philip Rycroft CB as chair of the firm’s public interest body (PIB), taking over from Dame Fiona Kendrick from 15 August 2023. Rycroft is a former senior civil servant and joined as an independent non-executive (INE) in March 2020 and since November 2020 has also been chair of PwC’s audit oversight body (AOB). The PIB, which also includes Suzanne Baxter and Victoria Raffé, provides challenge and oversight to the firm. Caroline Gardner CBE, a current AOB member, will take over from Rycroft as PwC’s AOB chair. Baxter will also become a member of the AOB.

KPMG Law has appointed six partners including Lee Ellis, who joins the firm’s tax disputes business offering to focus on direct tax; Laura Fisher, who joins from Baker McKenzie to continue to build the international business reorganisations team; David Cummings, joining from Mischon de Reya, who will focus on solving contentious and non-contentious client challenges in employment; and Kelly Whiter, who joins from Fladgate and PwC to focus on growing KPMG Law’s inbound corporate immigration business. Lisa Navarro, whose background includes running her own consultancy and time at Greenburg Traurig, will head up regulatory solutions advising utilities clients in water, energy and aviation sectors. Chris Thomson will spearhead the energy sector, focusing on corporate M&A and project work across fuel, renewables and emerging energy technologies. Thomson joins KPMG Law from Squire Patton Boggs having previously been a partner at Dentons.

Claritas Tax has hired Gill Hillier as a business development manager. Working with Mat Worrall, senior business development manager, Hillier will be responsible for the growth and development of the firm’s strategy within the northwest. She has over 15 years’ experience in business development and operations management in the finance industry.

Quantuma has appointed Steven Newbery as director, business development and client relations in its London office. He has a wealth of experience in business development and practice management, with a particular focus on the legal sector. Previously he worked at barristers’ chambers 36 Group and has over 20 years’ experience in senior clerking and business development roles. In his new role, Newbery will work with colleagues in the London disputes, investigations and valuations practice.

Social mobility charity Access Accountancy has appointed ICAEW chief operating officer Sharron Gunn as chair, replacing Hazel Garvey, who left ICAEW at the end of June.  In addition, ICAEW will continue as the Access Accountancy secretariat, working with signatories to drive the charity forward over the next three years. Access Accountancy works to ensure that everyone has an equal chance of accessing and progressing within accountancy based on merit, not background. Gunn qualified as a chartered accountant in 1989 and worked at Wates and Sainsbury. She joined ICAEW in 2001 and has driven a wide range of new member support services and commercial activities.

CloudPay, the employee pay provider, has appointed Roland Folz as chief executive officer with immediate effect. He has over 30 years of experience of strategic development and driving profitable growth across the financial services, mobility, telecoms and fintech sectors. He joins CloudPay from Solaris SE. Folz has also held senior leadership roles including at Deutsche Bank, Deutsche Telecom and four years as CEO of Mercedes Benz Bank.

Oxford Bus Group has appointed Neil Butler as the group’s finance director. He brings extensive experience in corporate finance and is well-placed to ensure the success of the business at a time of expansion and considerable strategic spending. Previously Butler held senior positions in corporate finance, including managerial roles at Vodafone UK and KPMG and most recently as finance director for luxury furniture brand OKA.

Ocorian, the provider of regulatory and compliance services, has strengthened its financial crime and anti-money laundering team with the appointment of Joe French as managing director and head of financial crime and consulting services. Previously French worked for Newgate Compliance for over six years. His experience includes 13 years with HMRC leading intelligence teams which developed domestic and international criminal and civil cases in relation to money laundering, fraud and cyber-crime.
