RSM has appointed Rupert Guppy, a capital allowances specialist, as an associate director in its Southampton office. Rupert is a dual qualified chartered surveyor and member of the ATT with 10 years of capital allowances experience. He joins the firm from E3 Consulting, prior to which he worked for a Big Four firm’s capital allowances team in London.

Richard Lewis has joined Smith & Williamson’s restructuring and recovery services team as a partner in the firm’s Bristol office. Lewis joins the firm from Grant Thornton where he spent the last 14 years. Prior to that, he worked for two other Big Four firms in the UK as well as Grand Cayman.

Carter Backer Winter (CBW) has promoted two team members, Graham Foster and Dan Rose, to partner. Foster is currently director of financial planning and has 18 years’ experience in the financial services industry. He has worked in the IFA sector since 1996 and became an IFA in 2001. He joined CBW’s Financial Planning Team in 2012. Rose is currently director of general practice after joining CBW in July 2013 as audit manager. Prior to this, he trained with a local five-partner accounting practice, gaining a wide range of experience and insight across a number of industries.

Milsted Langdon has appointed eight new members of staff. Richard Warwick, Ricki Critchell, Roshanthi Redwood, Rebecca Brown, Emily Cockram, David Thorne, Mike Bagg and Julian Borley have all joined Milsted Langdon in recent weeks and months. Warwick joins the firm’s insolvency department and Critchell has joined as a corporate finance manager in the firm’s mergers and acquisitions team. Bagg has joined as a tax director in Yeovil and Borley as the firm’s new director of VAT. Cockram and Thorne both join as trainees who will work within the general practice department. Redwood joins as a finance administrator in the financial services team, while Brown will join the administrative staff at the firm’s Taunton office.

Independent Tax, tax dispute specialist, had appointed Elaine Raywood as a senior associate. She has more than 20 years’ experience of working for both HMRC and local accountancy firms. She will be based at the company’s headquarters at Brackenholme near Howden, East Yorkshire. After leaving HMRC she joined Townends chartered accountants before joining JWP Creers LLP where she worked with clients on a wide variety of tax queries.

Kevin Hewitt has been appointed as chairman of FTI Consulting’s Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) region, which consists of 20 offices in 12 countries. Hewitt, who is based in London and joined the firm in 2007, served as co-chairman of the EMEA region since 2014 together with Chris Osborne, who has been appointed global leader of FTI Consulting’s economic consulting segment. Hewitt has 27 years of experience providing refinancing and restructuring solutions to a wide range of stakeholders including lenders, corporates and private equity sponsors.

Jon Alexander has been appointed as Buccleuch’s new finance director. He was previously group tax and treasury manager at Buccleuch, having been with the company since 2004. He started his career within the corporate tax department of Arthur Andersen before establishing an in house tax department with international ship management company, V-Ships. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2000 and as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 2002.

Bibby Financial Services has restructured its global executive team. Ted Winterton will become Chief executive, UK moving from his current position of UK commercial director. Ian Watson will expand his role to become chief executive, North America to now incorporate responsibility for Canada, whilst Richard Carter will move into the newly created role of chief executive, Europe and Asia. All new appointees will be members of the Global Executive Committee (ExCo), and report directly to global chief executive, David Postings. Ted Winterton will also join the Global Board.         

Nick Stance has been appointed to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) as a non-executive director beginning 1 April 2017. He is currently chief executive of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. He has held executive leadership positions in consumer organisations as deputy CEO of Which? (UK) and CEO of Choice (Australia), as well as a number of non-executive roles focusing on consumer experience, including as a director of a European consumer affairs organisation (BEUC). Craig Errington, group chief executive of Wesleyan, has become chair of the FCA’s Smaller Business Practioner Panel, also starting from 1 April, after being a member of the panel since May 2013. He succeeds Clinton Askew, director of citywide financial partners.
