Julia Bowyer has joined Wolters Kluwer as audit & accounting content manager in the CCH publishing division. ACA qualified, Bowyer was most recently senior manager in the accounting consulting services team at PwC and worked at the Big Four firm in a variety of roles since 1998. It was here that she honed her skills as an author and reviewer of publications and training materials, and acquired indepth knowledge of investment property, leasing, fair value and consolidation under IFRS and New UK GAAP.

The head of the Law Commission of England and Wales, Elaine Lorimer, has been appointed as the chief executive of Revenue Scotland. She replaces Eleanor Emberson, who led the team from initial formation through to launch of the Scottish tax collection service, Revenue Scotland.

Chris Briggs has been appointed associate director of banking and finance at Baldwins Accountants.  He joins the firm after specialising in the manufacturing sector for Lloyds Bank for the last six years and was previously part of the business link team based in the Black Country and the Midlands’ senior manager for succession planning for Advantage West Midlands. Clare Allen has been promoted from tax consultant to tax partner at the firm, to cover its offices in Tamworth, Derby, Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Nottingham.

The International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) has reappointed three senior members to the International Financial Reporting Interpretations Committee (IFRIC). Tony de Bell from PwC, Reinhard Dotzlaw, KPMG, and Martin Schloemer, Bayer AG, will all serve a second three-year term from 1 July 2016.

South east firm RDP Newmans has hired four tax and accounting specialists, Manoj Dahal joins as a tax senior having spent more than nine years working in practice; Bilkis Karolia is a senior accountant in the tax department with more than 20 years’ experience; Hardik Patel joins as an accounts assistant in the firm’s bookkeeping department; and recent graduate Thumakpreet Kaur is to train in the practice’s accounts and audit department. 

Deloitte has appointed Mark Howard as director in the indirect tax litigation advisory and settlement team. He joins the firm from PwC, where he most recently led on non-litigious indirect tax disputes, having worked on tax investigations and indirect tax teams for 18 years.

Mark Taylor has joined Buzzacott LLP as head of the firm’s tax investigations and dispute resolution team. Having previously worked for HMRC as a senior tax inspector and accredited financial investigator, Taylor has nearly 30 years’ experience in the industry. 

Four members of staff at Wilkins Kennedy’s Ashford office are celebrating exam success. Amy-Grace Hammond, Eddie Taylor, Reece Wootten and Ronnie Yau have all achieved their ACA qualification.

Bristol firm Corrigan Associates has appointed Richard Bunker as partner as part of an expansion programme through 2016. Bunker joins from Whyatt Pakeman accounting firm which recently merged with Bishop Fleming.

TaxAssist Group has appointed Ray Clarke to its board of directors, where he will take responsibility for all technical aspects of the TaxAssist franchise network, primarily support and training on all aspects of accounts and tax, the visit & audit programmes and being the main contact point for technical partners. Clarke served in the Royal Navy for five years before joining the Inland Revenue and then working in practice.

Saffery Champness has strengthened its partner team as Allan Holmes joins the firm as a partner in its London office.  He was previously a director at Deloitte and has particular expertise in offshore and onshore trust issues. Holmes was previously head of the private client tax and trusts accounts team at law firm Bond Dickinson and has held roles at the Inland Revenue and Ernst & Young.

Grant Thornton International (GTIL) has appointed Vishesh  Chandiok, the CEO and national managing partner of Grant Thornton India, to its board of governors, the youngest person ever to join the firm’s principal decision making authority.
