Taxpayers should take advantage of the HMRC consultation to improve standards of transparency, says Richard Mannion

On 14 November 2011, HMRC issued a consultation paper, Modernising the administration of the personal tax system: tax transparency for individuals. The accompanying note from the Treasury minister David Gauke says that one of the government’s main aims is to make the tax system easier for individuals to use and understand, and to make it more transparent.
