Pubs and grassroots music venues given 15% rates discount

After a huge furore over massive rises in costs, chancellor caves in to pressure, giving pubs a 15% cut in business rates bills from April

The discount in busiess rates will come into effect for the 2026-27 period, with rates over the next two years ‘frozen in real-terms for the following two years’, the chancellor Rachel Reeves confirmed.

Grassroots live music venues will also be included in the support package. But hotels and restaurants will not be given any discounts, which was met with criticism from the wider hospitality sector.
