Q&A: flexible working and compressed hours

My client has received a flexible working request from an employee asking for compressed hours over four days. Do we have to facilitate this?

Unless you have a strong business case to lean on, the answer is yes.

Flexible working requests became a day one right for employees on 6 April 2024.

There has always been complexity surrounding these requests because the employee’s circumstances may change the way you approach this.

If the employee is disabled and is making the request as a reasonable adjustment, then it stops being a flexible working request and should be considered under disability laws.
