Scott-Moncrieff is to merge with Edinburgh-based firm, Ogilvie & Company, expanding the tax advice and trust management team at the accountancy firm

Ogilvie & Company will move its team from Rutland Square to Scott-Moncrieff’s offices in the Edinburgh Exchange district from 1 May when the merger will take effect.

Director David Ogilvie and three of the current team will join the newly merged firm, continuing to work with existing clients under the Scott-Moncrieff banner. Managing partner of Scott-Moncrieff Stewart MacDonald will lead the merged practice.

Scott-Moncrieff is ranked 51st in the annual Accountancy Top 75 Firms with fee income of £11.4m and is part of the Moore Stephens international network.

This announcement follows the firm’s merger with Inverness based accountancy practice, Callander Colgan, last year which gave Scott-Moncrieff a stronger presence in the Highlands.

The merger also matches the firm’s wider ambitions to increase fee income by 50% by 2020. If this is achieved, this would push the practice into the UK Top 40 accounting firms.

Stewart MacDonald, managing partner of Scott-Moncrieff, said: ‘Our strategy for the firm is to grow income by 50% over the next five years, through a mix of strategic acquisition and improved efficiency – all of which needs to be client led.

‘Bringing Ogilvie & Company, a skilled and well-respected firm, under the Scott-Moncrieff banner will enhance our advisory capacity and expertise, and add value to our client offering.’

Ogilvie & Company was established by David Ogilvie FCA in 2002, and specialises in trust management, business and personal tax advice and general business guidance to a range of clients, with particularly strong representation in the landed estates and farming sectors across Scotland.

David Ogilvie said: ‘Joining Scott-Moncrieff is a significant opportunity for our team, and our clients.

‘By giving our staff the chance to develop within the context of a larger firm with an international network, we are better placed to provide existing clients with an enriched service, while maintaining the high quality of personal service and client satisfaction in which we pride ourselves, and for which Scott-Moncrieff is renowned.’
