The introduction of a 14-day window for filing and payment window for Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) marking a radical shift in the current 28-day period has been delayed until after April 2018 following consultation
When first announced in August 2016, the move was met with criticism across the profession and from property investors and lawyers, who were unhappy about the reduction in the current payment system.
It appears that the final decision following an eight-week HMRC consultation last year on plans to cut the payment window for SDLT from 30 to 14 days has resulted in a delay to the proposed tightening of the payment window.
The government has now confirmed that the original plan for a 1 January 2018 will not go ahead and the measure is unlikely to come into force until 1 April 2018 at the earliest.
