Summer blues make 50% of finance workers consider job change

Around half (54%) of finance workers have revealed that they are more likely to search for a new job in September when the summer ends, resulting in a surge in candidates

According to data from CV-Library, a job site holding the UK’s largest candidate database of over 10.5 million CVs, in September 2015 there was a 10% increase in finance candidates registering their CVs.

Research has also found that 60% of workers find it difficult to return to routine after a summer holiday and three quarters admit that it takes one to two days to adjust.

Due to these post-holiday blues, finance workers tend to look for new opportunities in September, creating a candidate surge.

Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of CV-Library, said: ‘We’re entering a traditionally busy time in recruitment, so it will be interesting to see how the finance industry’s job market favours, especially given recent concerns in the economy.

‘Post-summer labour market activity always tends to improve, as more people return from their holidays. During this period last year, for example, we saw job creation within the finance sector rise by 14%, and we’re hopeful that we’ll witness a similar increase again this year.’

The research found that finance workers find these factors most difficult about returning to work after a summer break: catching up on work (34.7%), getting up early (24%), catching up on emails (17.3%) and getting back into a routine (16%).
