Sunak and Johnson urge City to invest in British business

The Prime Minister and Chancellor has called on UK’s institutional investors to invest money into businesses and infrastructure to create an ‘Investment Big Bang’ to help the UK economy recover from the pandemic

In a joint letter to investors, Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak urge UK institutional investors to ‘seize the moment’ and use their billions to back long-term assets such as pioneering businesses and infrastructure such as bridges, roads, and wind farms. They also encouraged investment to support high-growth UK tech companies.

According to the PM and the Chancellor, British pensioners risk missing out on ‘better retirements’ because too small a proportion of their pension funds is being invested.

The pair say that by investing, it would enable pension savers to access better returns and support an ‘innovative and greener future’ for the UK.

The letter states: ‘We want to see UK pension savers benefiting from the fruits of UK ingenuity and enterprise, being given the opportunity to back British success stories, and secure higher returns and better retirements.’
