Tax planning: offshore and local assets

Greater care with tax planning is essential for those holding offshore and local assets but who want to be based in the UK, says Robert Smeath, partner at New Quadrant Partners

For many years the UK has been seen as a good place for global wealth creators to do business and to invest. The tax and legislative framework is complex but generally fair and transparent.

It has been possible to live in the UK, but to hold assets in well developed offshore centres, such as Jersey, and to benefit from a number of favourable rules to reduce the tax payable.
