Tax Update: July 2011

The monthly round-up of developments in tax, employment taxes, NICs and VAT from a range of specialist commentators.

HMRC Gets Busy

HM Revenue & Customs has recently released details of its business plan for 2011/12, setting out the main objectives for the coming year. These include maximising revenues, improving the customer experience and reducing costs for both HMRC and the taxpayer. In particular, the plan considers HMRC’s continuing endeavours against ‘avoidance, evasion and criminal attack’ and also highlights the PAYE system as a major area for improvement in 2011/12.

Compliance Trial

Plans are afoot for HMRC to trial a single compliance process (SCP) for small and medium-sized enterprises which will apply to enquiries across a range of different taxes.
